Granite for Kitchen Worktops
more info >>>

A hard (second only to diamond), naturally occurring igneous rock, it withstands heats far greater than any that you will ever encounter in a normal kitchen. It is practically impossible to scratch and is very stain resistant, so it will maintain its polished looks for many years.

Your worktop started life over 3 million years ago when temperatures near the Earth's crust (about 12 miles below the surface) rose to around 1350 degrees Fahrenheit causing a mass of molten rock. Over the space of approximately a million years, this magma cooled and granite was formed. The Earth's surface since then has eroded sufficiently to allow the granite to be easily quarried. It is primarily composed of three minerals - the white grains are feldspar, the light grey glassy grains are quartz and the black flaky grains are mica.

Granite is the number one choice for bakers as it is the considered the top surface for preparing dough and similar foodstuffs. If you do a lot of baking, you should consider granite for your worktops, or at least for an inlay to provide the best worktop for rolling and kneading of dough.

Almost any decor in your kitchen can be enhanced by the addition of granite. There is a huge range of colours available to complement any colour scheme - whites, blacks, greys, greens, blues, reds and more in a number of hues. Some granites are grained or speckled, some are veined like marble, and some are both - and all to varying degrees so you can choose the look that is right for you. There are, of course, irregularities and individuality from one piece of granite to another as there are with any naturally occurring substance, but this adds to the appeal, giving it its own unique natural beauty. For durability and aesthetic elegance, granite is the natural choice.

Granite Kitchen Worktop Installation

When choosing granite worktops, the practicality of installation must be considered. It is important that the supporting area such as cabinets, table legs etc. is strong enough to hold the granite. Granite is very heavy and if it is given inadequate support it can break or buckle whatever it is placed on, which can also damage the worktop if it drops from any height.

Granite can make an attractive addition alongside other materials if you do not wish to use it throughout your kitchen. Its heat resistant qualities make it ideal for installation near a stove or any surface that requires extreme heat. We supply a large range of colours of granite to suit any existing scheme, or to fit in with your new designs.

We provide experienced installation for all your granite worktops, so our fitters will ensure that there is adequate support for granite. We adhere to all health and safety regulations to make sure that you have the peace of mind that your worktops will last for years and years.

Corian for Kitchen Worktops more info >>>

Created by DuPont more than 30 years ago, Corian is an advanced blend of natural materials and pure acrylic polymer. Over these years, Corian has earned trust and respect as a material that continues to prove itself as excellent value and exte

Corian is unique in that it can be manipulated in a number while most other materials are limited in how they can be worked. Corian can be cut, drilled, carved, sculpted, routed, bent, thermoformed - the possibilities are seemingly endless as new ways of creating Corian products are always being discovered. Corian takes the advantages from many other materials and rolls them into one. It has a rich, natural translucence like fine stone and is warm like fine wood, and is available in over 100 colours so you are bound to find the perfect look
for your home.

Corian worktops are solid all the way through and do not need to be treated. They are hard to scratch, but if the surface is scratched it can be easily renewed since Corian is solid and uniform from surface to surface. Corian is also non-porous which makes it very stain resistant as liquids will not penetrate and seep in, so spillages just need to be wiped away with a damp cloth. The non-porous surface also prevents the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria associated with some other worktops. Corian is also non-toxic and chemically non-reactive with virtually no off-gassing at normal room temperatures in accordance with building codes and other local restrictions.

Cleaning Corian is easier than most surfaces because Corian is very smooth so there is nowhere to trap worktops are thermosealed which means that they do not have the joins and visible edge seals that other materials have. This means that Corian worktops do not get a build up in the corners and edging as their is nowhere for dirt to get trapped. As well as meaning that your worktop looks newer for longer, this quality also prevents build up of bacteria.

Corian Kitchen Worktop Installation

Corian is easy to fit in around existing schemes, or can be used as the basis for your decor. Corian sinks, furniture and lighting (to name but a few products) are also available to complement your worktops, but Corian matches perfectly with many other materials. Corian is fixed by means of thermosealing, which ensures a seamless appearance which as well as being aesthetically pleasing, means that no dirt or bacteria can get trapped in the seams. It also means that your worktop flows to your sink, oven and other appliances.

You can create a unique kitchen with Corian, as there are over 100 colours available and it can be molded, carved, routed, sandblasted, drilled, thermoformed - the possibilities are seemingly endless! It can replicate stone as an easy to maintain alternative, or use a solid colour to match an existing or desired colour scheme. Corian can give your whole kitchen a makeover with minimal installation.

Corian must be installed by a certified Corian fitter, so you know that you are getting the best service available. Fitting Corian is a specialist area and should not be attempted by anyone not experienced and trained in Corian installation.

Hardwood for Kitchen Worktops
more info >>>

A wooden worktop is one of the best ways of achieving a traditional, rustic country cottage effect in your kitchen, but also lends itself to more modern designs. Our consistently best sellers woods are Oak, Beech and Rustic Beech, all having their own unique attraction. Hardwood worktops generally require more maintenance than other worktops but if treated with respect wooden tops provide a natural beauty to your kitchen that is hard to replicate. Synthetic wood coloured products have come a long way, but nothing truly has the timeless luxury and warmth of a real solid wooden worktop.

One of the main advantages of a wooden worktop is that other surfaces age over time and usage, losing their original splendour. Wood gains character over time, some woods become richer and deeper in colour over time, becoming a part of your home in a personal way that other materials will not.

A solid wooden worktop also has the benefit of being solid all the way through. This means that if you want to drill holes in it, shape the edges or even carve designs into the wood it will have the same unique grain running through the inside. The solidness of wooden worktops also means that surface damage or scratches can be easily sanded away to reveal a fresh surface.

Hardwood Kitchen Worktop Installation

Wooden surfacing can be fitted round most existing kitchen schemes with relative ease. Our worktops are provided ready for installation by a reliable and experienced kitchen fitter. They are treated to prevent mould and rot, and to increase liquid resistance, and cut to predetermined size requirements.

When planning to incorporate wood into the design of your kitchen there are a couple of factors to consider as to where the wood will be best suited. Firstly, wooden worktops should not be installed directly beside your sink. Even when being careful there can be an excessive amount of splashing from the sink area and this can seep into the wood over time, causing damage to the seals or woodrot in the wood itself. Also, it is best not to use wooden surfacing next to your cooker or oven. The constant extreme changes in temperature can damage the wood and cause it to warp and change shape as wood expands when exposed to heat. As well as this there is the temptation to place pans directly from the stove onto the worktop nearest the stove, and this can cause burnmarks on your wood.

In cases where you want your kitchen to incorporate entirely wooden worktops, make sure that there is a protective mat or tripod near the cooker. For sink areas, provide adequate drainage by the sink to prevent the placing of wet dishes on the wooden surface.

Laminate for Kitchen Worktops
more info >>>

By far the most popular choice for kitchens in the UK, laminate worktops offer an attractive option for your kitchen at a more affordable price than most other surfaces. They are quite hard wearing, resistant to heat and easy to maintain. The main advantage of laminate is that it is available in a larger range of colours than other materials so it will fit in with any colour scheme.

Laminate surfaces are more heat resistant than they used to be and will withstand heat from boiling water and other moderately hot spillages and containers. It is not recommended that you place a hot pan on a laminated worktop as this can warp the surface.

Due to the non-porous surface of laminate, liquids will not be absorbed and can be easily wiped away. Laminate surfaces are very resistant to most stains and with minimal care will retain their uniform colour without discolouration from staining or sunbleaching for years.

The colours laminates are available in is far more extensive than other kitchen worktop materials. A solid colour can be chosen if desired, or if you want the look of a wooden or natural stone worktop at a fraction of the price, there is also a large choice of simulated colours. The quality of these imitation laminates has progressed greatly and in many cases it is hard to tell the difference just by looking at it. The range of laminate colours means that you can have the look of natural wood or stone in an synthetic colour. The design possibilities are endless!

Clearly the top choice for colour selection and affordability, laminate worktops offer a range of looks for your kitchen without breaking the bank. A laminate worktop is an attractive option and, if properly maintained, will last for years.
