Apollo Solid Surface Installation and Planning Information
Upstands - We will endeavour to keep as close as possible to the line of the wall, when fabricating upstands, however it is possible that gaps may occur at the back of your worktop. The upstands are not suitable for walls where there are large variations in the wall profile. Plastering or tiling should ideally be completed after the worktop installation.
End Panels - End panels will be of a shoulder housing joint type configuration to produce a flush fitting appearance. The height of the end panel will be manufactured to give an extra 10mm in height to allow for scribing to the floor.
Drainer Grooves - A small amount of standing water will be retained in drainer grooves after the majority of the water has drained away. Standing water should be wiped clear to avoid water residue marking the worksurface. Drainers are only 3mm deep and 10mm wide.
Joints - Apollo Solid Surface joints are inconspicuous and unobtrusive, giving the overall appearance of a seamless worktop. They are NOT necessarily invisible.
Thermal Expansion - Apollo Solid Surface can expand up to 1mm per metre. A gap of at least 3mm should be left at each end of the worktop when fitted and filled with decorators caulk. When Apollo Solid Surface is joined to other materials (such as glass, steel or wood) an elastic type of adhesive, for example polyurethane, is required for expansion.
Overhangs and Supports - Any overhang which extends more than 300mm should be supported.
Hobs - There is no warranty on recessed hobs. Where a Apollo Solid Surface splash back or wall cladding is installed a gap of 50mm min. is required behind an electric hob or 150mm min. for a gas hob. A 'breakfront may be necessary to accommodate this requirement. There must be a minimum of 50mm from the cut-out to the front of the worktop and a gap of 120mm between cut-outs. Hob flange needs to sit on aluminium thermal insulation tape around the cut-out, to avoid conducting too much heat and causing cracks in the worktop.
Sink cut-outs - A minimum of 50mm is required between two sink cut-outs. Sink cut-outs must be placed a minimum of 80mm from the worktop from edge. This is required under terms of the product warranty. If a waste disposal unit is fitted to an under mounted sink after installation, additional support will be required, otherwise you warranty may be invalidated.
