Wenge (pronounced Ven-gay) is an African wood which grows mostly in the swampy areas of Zaire, Cameroon, and Gabon. Its grains and patterns are dark brown, which sometimes border on black. It is rich and offers a luxurious finish to any kitchen design.
Wenge is the "Rolls Royce" of solid wooden worktops and can be incredibly expensive. The characteristics of Wenge are often imitated with stains and veneers on other less expensive hardwoods. Please be assured that ours is the real thing.
Interesting fact: Wenge is a popular wood for electric guitar makers because of its contrast with other light woods allowing dramatic designs and effects.
