Apollo® Magna Installation And Planning Information
- Upstands - Apollo® Magna upstands are manufactured in straight lengths and are not suitable for walls where there are large variations in the wall profile. If we are completing the installation of your Apollo® Magna worktops, we will endeavour to template as close as possible to the line of the wall, however it is possible that gaps may occur at the back of your worktop. It is recommended therefore, that plastering or tiling be completed after the worktop installation.
- End Panels - Apollo® Magna worktop end panels are only available if you are having your worktops template and installed by us. They are available with a mitred butt joint, a standard butt joint (5mm overhang) or a flush butt joint to the worktop. The height of the end panel will be manufactured with an extra 10mm in height to allow for scribing to the floor.
- Drainer Grooves - The drainer grooves in the Apollo® Magna composite surface are 3mm deep and 10mm wide. A small amount of standing water will be retained in the drainer grooves after the majority of the water has drained away. Standing water should be wiped clear to avoid water residue marking the Apollo® Magna work surface.
- Joints - The joints in the Apollo® Magna solid surface worktops are inconspicuous and unobtrusive, giving the overall appearance of a seamless worktop. They are NOT necessarily invisible.
- Thermal Expansion - Apollo® Magna composite can expand up to 1mm per metre. A gap of at least 3mm should be left at each end of the worktop when fitted and filled with decorators caulk. When Apollo® Magna is joined to other materials (such as glass, steel or wood) an elastic type of adhesive, for example polyurethane, is required for expansion.
- Overhangs and Supports - The maximum unsupported overhang of an Apollo® Magna worktop is 300mm. If there is a gap of over 1000mm between base units additional support will be required.
- Hobs - No warranty is supplied for recessed hobs in the Apollo® Magna material. Where an Apollo® Magna splash back or wall cladding is installed a minimum gap of 50mm is required behind an electric hob. This increases to a minimum of 150mm for a gas hob. A 'breakfront' may be necessary to accommodate this requirement. There must be a minimum of 50mm from the cut out to the front of the worktop and a gap of 120mm between cut outs. The Hob flange needs to sit on aluminium thermal insulation tape around the cut out, to avoid conducting too much heat and causing cracks in the Apollo® Magna composite.
- Sink Cut Outs - A minimum of 50mm is required between two sink cut outs in an Apollo® Magna solid surface kitchen worktop. Sink cut outs must be placed a minimum of 80mm from the worktop front edge. This is required under the terms of the Apollo® Magna product warranty. If a waste disposal unit is to be fitted to an under mounted sink after installation, additional support will be required, otherwise your warranty may be invalidated.
